Karachi: In an ongoing effort to enhance the city’s environmental sustainability, Karachi’s Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced the renewal of a key partnership with the Faizan Global Relief Foundation (FGRC) for extensive tree plantation. This collaboration, celebrated with a memorandum of understanding signed at Aziz Bhatti Park on August 16, commits to planting 75,000 trees annually across the city.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the event not only reaffirmed the city’s commitment to greening efforts but also marked the distribution of 25,000 saplings provided by FGRC to the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) for immediate planting. Mayor Wahab emphasized the religious and social virtues of tree planting, urging all citizens to participate actively in this initiative to combat climate change and enhance urban aesthetics.
The ceremony, attended by political figures, community leaders, and environmental advocates, highlighted the collaborative efforts between KMC’s Department of Parks and Horticulture and FGRC. Notable attendees included Pakistan People’s Party Deputy Secretary of Information Shakeel Chaudhry, various district and municipal leaders, and representatives from Dawat-e-Islami and FGRC.
Mayor Wahab detailed the scope of the tree plantation campaign, which launched on August 14, aligning with other institutional efforts to green the city. He stressed the importance of community involvement, comparing the care and dedication of planting trees in public spaces to the reverence shown at gravesites.
The renewed agreement with FGRC signifies a strengthening of public-private partnerships in urban environmental management. Mayor Wahab also highlighted the ongoing efforts to create urban forests and improve major green spaces like Aziz Bhatti Park, one of Karachi’s oldest parks, which is slated for further development and beautification.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to address global warming and enhance the quality of life in Karachi through sustainable urban planning. The mayor’s office, buoyed by public support, remains committed to ongoing environmental enhancements across the city’s parks and open spaces.
