Karachi Initiates Road and Park Enhancements Following Recent Rains

Karachi: In the wake of recent rainfall, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced the commencement of extensive road repair and the initiation of modern projects in city parks aimed at enriching the community’s recreational opportunities. These remarks were made during a departmental meeting convened to address post-rain damages and future urban planning.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab, while addressing officials at the KMC head office, detailed the plans for immediate road repairs due to weather-related damages. He also highlighted upcoming enhancements in KMC parks, including projects that promise to offer improved facilities to Karachi’s citizens. Present at the meeting were key municipal officials including Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi, Director General of the Engineering Department Azhar Ali Shah, and other relevant department heads.

The Mayor emphasized the necessity of completing all current development projects by the end of the year. He instructed the acceleration of work on projects under the Annual Development Program to ensure they meet their scheduled completion. Special directives were given to the Director General of Parks to integrate urban forestry within park spaces to support large-scale tree plantation, a move seen as critical to improving the local climate.

In his address, Mayor Wahab also reviewed the effectiveness of the city’s response to the recent rains. He noted that 106 roads managed by KMC were clear and traffic was smoothly flowing through all underpasses. He commended the efforts of KMC, the Water Corporation, and other municipal bodies for their efficient rainwater drainage, mentioning that the performance this year surpassed that of previous years.

Furthermore, the Mayor visited various city areas to assess the post-rain conditions. He confirmed that all storm water drains were cleared of obstacles, ensuring effective water drainage. He ordered immediate action to repair potholes and make roads motorable as a priority. Mayor Wahab reiterated the city’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing infrastructure without letting criticisms over authority or funds deter their efforts. He also mentioned a recent inspection by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, underscoring a unified approach towards urban management.
