Karachi, In a significant move to enhance the infrastructure and quality of life in Orangi Town, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, under the guidance of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, announced the commencement of paving works across various roads and streets in the area. The project, estimated at eight crore rupees, will cover 55 thousand square feet, focusing on water, sewerage, and infrastructure improvements as key priorities for the region’s development.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the initiative is part of a broader effort by the People’s Party to address the issues facing Karachi’s residents, emphasizing development works in both the central and suburban areas without discrimination. The announcement came during a foundation stone laying ceremony attended by Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, PPP Deputy Parliamentary Leader in City Council Dil Muhammad, and other local leaders and officials. This project aligns with the party’s commitment to service-oriented politics and aims to provide significant relief and improved facilities, particularly to women and children in Orangi Town.
Mayor Wahab highlighted the collaborative nature of the project, which includes partnership with PTI town chairman and local body representatives, underlining the bipartisan support for the development works under the ADP scheme. In addition to road improvements, efforts are being made to enhance recreational facilities in Orangi Town, including the restoration of Afaq Shaheed Park and the upgrade of other local parks to offer green, modern amenities to the community.
Addressing other concerns in Orangi Town, Mayor Wahab discussed the establishment of a rabies control center and measures to tackle issues related to manhole cover theft and drug addiction, emphasizing the role of police and local governance in addressing these challenges. Furthermore, he touched upon the Safe City project, expected to bring technological improvements to Karachi’s security infrastructure, and water supply projects aimed at addressing the city’s significant water shortfall.
