Srinagar, Ghulam Ahmed Gulzar, Vice Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has accused the Indian judiciary of being under the influence of Hindutva elements and the Narendra Modi government, alleging that it is being used as a tool to deprive the people of Jammu and Kashmir of their rights.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Gulzar, in a statement from Srinagar, criticized the Indian Supreme Court’s recent decision, which he described as biased, anti-Muslim, and anti-Kashmir. He condemned the court’s validation of the Modi government’s decision made on August 5, 2019, calling it a “travesty of justice” and a “blot on the face of judicial history.”
Gulzar further asserted that the Modi-led government is utilizing the judiciary to impose its Hindutva agenda in Kashmir and strip the Kashmiris of their fundamental rights. He accused the Indian courts of being “kangaroo courts” and facilitators of Modi’s objectives. He claimed that the Indian judiciary has been highly influenced by saffronization since Modi’s rise to power in 2014.
Recalling past instances, Gulzar stated that the Indian courts have consistently disappointed the Kashmiri people, often making decisions that align with the Indian government’s directives. He referenced the cases of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru, alleging that they were executed on false charges due to government pressure. Gulzar remarked that even the Indian Supreme Court admitted a lack of evidence against Afzal Guru, yet he was still executed.
Gulzar strongly rejected the court’s recent ruling upholding the Modi regime’s actions on August 5, 2019, labeling it a clear violation of UN resolutions and indicative of the judiciary’s bias towards the Modi government and RSS-BJP influence. He emphasized that any unilateral decisions on Jammu and Kashmir’s status, against the will of its people, are unacceptable, as preserving their unique identity is crucial.
He paid tribute to the resilience of the Kashmiri people, expressing confidence in their eventual liberation from what he termed “Indian slavery.” Gulzar called on the United Nations to hold India accountable for alleged war crimes in the region and expressed gratitude towards Pakistan for its continuous support of the Kashmir cause.
