Karachi: The Employers Federation of Pakistan (EFP) celebrated the 10th Employer of the Year Award Distribution, emphasizing the critical role of responsible business practices in fostering decent work, enterprise sustainability, and social justice. The ceremony, attended by notable figures including Malik Tahir Javaid, President of EFP, and Minister of Labor Shahid Abdul Salam Thahim, highlighted the advancements in ethical business strategies and recognized the exceptional practices of various enterprises.
According to Employers’ Federation of Pakistan, the event was held in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO) to raise awareness about the importance of fair and ethical business operations. Malik Tahir Javaid expressed gratitude to the Minister of Labor and the ILO for their ongoing support and stressed the significance of adhering to labor legislation and international standards to remain competitive globally, particularly under the GSP+ framework.
The ceremony also featured insights from various leaders including Philippe Oliver Gross, the EU’s Charge D’Affaires, who delivered a video message emphasizing the EU’s commitment to sustainable economic practices. Majyd Aziz, former president of EFP, discussed the benefits of aligning business operations with social welfare, while Yulia Bazhenova, Head of the TextILES Project at GIZ, introduced the Responsible Business Helpdesk, a key initiative supporting companies in adopting responsible practices.
A panel discussion with stakeholders from ILO Pakistan, the Government of Sindh, and the Pakistan Workers Federation further explored strategies for enhancing sustainable development and compliance with global standards. The panel underscored the vital role of strong employer organizations in driving economic growth and social justice.
Geir Tonstol, Country Director of ILO Pakistan, lauded the EFP’s efforts in organizing the ceremony and its role in promoting decent work conditions. He congratulated the awardees for their adherence to fundamental principles and rights at work, marking the ceremony as a platform for celebrating responsible business achievements.
The event culminated with the presentation of the CEO of the Year Awards to Feroze1888 Mills Ltd and K-Electric Limited, alongside other companies recognized for their commitment to responsible practices and sustainable growth.
