Karachi: Addressing key urban challenges ahead of Muharram, Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tesori announced his personal commitment to ensuring adequate city preparations, including road carpeting and enhanced lighting, during a press conference at Governor House.
According to Sindh Governor House, Governor Tesori revealed that a special cell has been set up within Governor House to coordinate Muharram activities. He expressed willingness to personally address any funding gaps faced by local government bodies to facilitate city-wide preparations, such as road repairs and ensuring there are no power outages during the holy month. These measures aim to support the smooth conduct of Muharram processions and gatherings, which see significant participation across the city.
In addition to infrastructure enhancements, the Governor pledged to install ‘sabeels’—stations providing cold water and refreshments—to accommodate the needs of mourners throughout the city. This initiative is part of a broader effort to offer comfort and support to the public during the solemn commemorations.
Governor Tesori also touched on the law and order situation, assuring that the Rangers and police are fully engaged in maintaining peace during this period. He highlighted the importance of mutual respect and care among community members, reflecting the teachings of Imam Hussain.
Moreover, the Governor acknowledged the planned presence of Syedna Mufazal Saifuddin, the spiritual leader of the Dawoodi Bohra community, in Karachi for Muharram, describing it as an honor for the city. In response to questions about services for pilgrims, he confirmed that he would request additional support from the federal government to facilitate their needs during this time.
The conference also addressed broader social welfare initiatives under Governor Tesori’s administration, including offering free IT courses to 50,000 youths and distributing ration bags to the needy, underscoring a commitment to civic service over politics.
