Karachi, The Karachi Goods Carrier Association, led by President Noor Khan Niazi, met with IG Sindh Rafat Mukhtar Raja at the Central Police Office to discuss the critical issue of the abduction of drivers from highways and their recovery. The meeting focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of drivers who play a vital role in the transportation of food and agricultural products across the region.
According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Sindh, IG Sindh Rifaat Mukhtar Raja acknowledged the drivers’ crucial role in the economy and assured the delegation of ongoing efforts to recover kidnapped drivers. He informed them of formal instructions issued to relevant supervisory officers to address this concern.
Raja highlighted that the Sindh Police had successfully rescued approximately 250 citizens caught in honey traps in the last two months. Additionally, operations and Intelligence-Based Operations (IBOs) in the rough areas of Larkana and Sukkur resulted in the rescue of seven hostages in the past week. He emphasized the combined efforts of Larkana and Sukkur police in the open and rough areas to protect people’s lives and properties and control the law and order situation effectively.
The delegation expressed full confidence in the actions of IG Sindh and the Sindh Police. They raised concerns that such incidents of abduction create fear among drivers, potentially disrupting the transportation of essential commodities. The goods transport community appreciated the police’s measures in recovering drivers and ensuring security, assuring all possible cooperation to the Sindh Police.
Senior police officers, including DIGs from Headquarters Sindh, Larkana, AIGs Operation, Kashmore, Sukkur, and other officials, also attended the meeting, underscoring the collaborative effort to address the safety concerns of the goods transport sector.
