Karachi Exports Soar to $4 Billion in Rice, Governor Announces Initiatives at Award Ceremony

Karachi, In a significant economic milestone, the Governor of Sindh, Kamran Khan Tesori, announced that rice exports from the region have reached a record $4 billion this financial year. The announcement came during the Export Awards ceremony held by the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) at the Governor House.

According to Sindh Governor House, the ceremony was attended by key figures including REAP Chairman Chela Ram Keulani, Export Recognition Committee Convenor Abdul Rahim, and other association vice chairmen. Governor Tesori highlighted the association’s pivotal role in achieving this export target and commended REAP’s 25 years of service. The annual export awards, he noted, are an excellent initiative to promote and motivate rice exporters further.

Governor Tesori also discussed plans to enhance support for the rice exporting community, including a proposal to the Prime Minister to designate the Ministry of Commerce as an industry-specific entity to address sector challenges more effectively. He revealed the establishment of a dedicated cell within the Governor’s House to expedite resolution of issues faced by REAP members. Additionally, the governor expressed his intention to recommend Abdul Rahim for the Star of Imtiaz in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sector.

The ceremony also marked the 25th anniversary of REAP, celebrated with award distributions for exceptional performance and a ceremonial cake cutting by the governor.
