Karachi, In a significant move towards urban development, the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Director General, Syed Shujaat Hussain, hosted a delegation recommended by the World Bank at the Civic Center office. The meeting underscored the Sindh government’s commitment to enhancing Karachi’s infrastructure and addressing resettlement needs, with plans to construct key roads aimed at easing traffic congestion.
According to Karachi Development Authority, the discussion revolved around proposed improvements for the city, including the construction of three major roads around Korangi Extension and the direct connection of Kashmir Road to Shahrah Faisal and Dumloti Road to Shahrah Faisal. These developments are expected to significantly reduce traffic pressure on Paridi Street and Shahrah Faisal, contributing to a smoother flow of vehicles across the city.
The World Bank delegation expressed satisfaction with the KDA’s strategic approach and recommended the preparation of a feasibility report following a comprehensive survey. The Director General highlighted the potential displacement of local residents due to road construction, reassuring that the Sindh government has plans to relocate over 6,000 people to alternative sites.
The World Bank’s readiness to support Karachi’s urban development was affirmed, with the delegation advising on the importance of KDA’s participation in upcoming seminars and training sessions focused on resettlement. The meeting concluded with the KDA presenting traditional Sindh Ajrak and Topi to the delegation members, symbolizing cultural appreciation.
