Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab highlighted the significance of September 6, 1965, as an unforgettable chapter in Pakistan’s history during his message on the occasion of Defence Day of Pakistan. He emphasized the courage and heroism demonstrated by Pakistan’s armed forces on that day and called for unity and spirit akin to that time to protect the homeland. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has organized various activities to mark this historic day, including ceremonies, sports events, and cultural competitions.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, a schedule of events has been set to appropriately commemorate Defence Day on September 6. The day will begin with a flag hoisting ceremony at 10:30 a.m., led by Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab at the KMC’s head office. Following the ceremony, at 11 a.m., the Mayor will attend a girls’ hockey match and an art competition at the Olympian Islahuddin Hockey Academy Ground in Block H, North Nazimabad, under the auspices of the Commissioner Karachi Division.
Additionally, a parade is scheduled at the KMC City Warden Headquarters at 11 a.m., and a fire tender rally will be conducted by the KMC Fire Brigade during the night of September 5-6. Later in the day, at 5 p.m., a football exhibition match is planned at the KMC Football Ground on Baba-e-Urdu Road. Furthermore, a photographic exhibition and a seminar will take place at Frere Hall to honor the martyrs of Pakistan Defence and educate the new generation about their sacrifices.
The events will see participation from Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Municipal Commissioner S.M. Afzal Zaidi, heads of various KMC departments, other officials, employees, and the general public, all gathering to pay tribute to the heroes of Pakistan’s Defence Day.
