Karachi City Council Passes Resolutions to Honor Contributions and Improve City Infrastructure

Karachi, In a recent meeting held at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) head office, the city council, under the leadership of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, approved several resolutions aimed at honoring significant contributions to the city and enhancing its infrastructure. The meeting, also attended by Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, saw unanimous approval for initiatives including the awarding of the “Karachi medal with cash reward” and the renovation of KMC parks with the installation of solar systems.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the council also paid tribute to the services of former Sindh Assembly member Shaheed Abdullah Murad, offering prayers for his forgiveness. Additionally, a majority-approved resolution focused on the collection of taxes/fees on animals sold in Karachi’s cattle markets during Eid-ul-Azha 2024. However, a proposal regarding the up-gradation of KMC hospitals through public-private partnerships was deferred to the next meeting.

Mayor Wahab announced plans for a pre-meeting consultation with representatives from all parties to outline future actions and introduce more resolutions in the forthcoming session. The council also celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision on the presidential reference regarding former Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as a “victory of justice,” acknowledging his enduring legacy and the voice he gave to Pakistan’s common man.

Parliamentary leaders from various political parties, including the Pakistan Peoples Party, Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, and Pakistan Muslim League (N), expressed their views on the matter, with some calling for justice for Murtaza Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto as well.

The meeting underscored Mayor Wahab’s commitment to serving Karachi’s citizens and formulating effective policies through continued consultation with city council representatives. Additionally, the council members recognized International Women’s Day, emphasizing the importance of advocating for women’s rights. In support of this commitment, Mayor Wahab announced the allocation of a common room for women at the KMC head office, further promoting gender equality within the city’s governance structures.
