Karachi City Council Demands Justice for Slain Members, Proposes Committee to Tackle Street Crime

Karachi, In a significant meeting of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s council held on Thursday, members unanimously passed resolutions demanding swift justice for the murdered Shaheed UC Chairman Sabir Ali Magsi and City Council member Parveen Murad Baloch. The council, chaired by Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab and attended by Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, also proposed the formation of a committee to address the increasing street crime in Karachi.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the resolutions, presented by Irshad Ali Advocate of the Pakistan Peoples Party and Qazi Sadruddin of Jamat-e-Islami, called for the immediate arrest and punishment of those responsible for the killings. Members from various political parties, including the PPP’s parliamentary leader Syed Najmi Alam and Jamaat-e-Islami’s Saifuddin Advocate, expressed their condemnation of the violence and the urgent need for law enforcement action.

Amid discussions on the city’s security challenges, the council proposed establishing a committee comprised of City Council members. This committee is tasked with meeting the IG Sindh to discuss the crime situation in Karachi. Mayor Wahab welcomed the proposal, emphasizing the importance of political party representation in the committee to effectively communicate the city’s law enforcement needs.

The Mayor praised the council’s proceedings and expressed hope for continued productive sessions aimed at addressing the citizens’ concerns. He noted that, following the tradition of postponing meetings upon a member’s death, the session was adjourned, with the next meeting scheduled for March 8, 2024.

This meeting underscores the Karachi City Council’s commitment to seeking justice for its fallen members and taking proactive measures to combat the rising tide of street crime, reflecting a unified stance against violence and insecurity in the city.
