Karachi Accelerates Drain Cleaning Operations Ahead of Monsoon Season

Karachi: Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad announced significant efforts to expedite the cleaning of the city’s drainage systems in anticipation of the upcoming rainy season, aiming to prevent the perennial challenge of urban flooding.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the Deputy Mayor reviewed the progress of the cleaning operations for various rainwater drains across the city, accompanied by Senior Director Municipal Services Zulfiqar Abaro and other officials. Murad emphasized the urgency of completing these operations swiftly to ensure effective rainwater management and prevent the disruptions commonly experienced during monsoons.

The initiative involves clearing all choke points in the drainage system and maintaining active staff throughout the season to facilitate the quick transfer of rainwater from smaller drains to major canals. The Deputy Mayor also highlighted the collaborative strategy involving the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) and other local agencies to enhance the city’s preparedness and alleviate potential hardships for residents.

Further, Murad called for the continuous monitoring of standing water and quick responses to any flooding, ensuring that traffic flow and daily activities are minimally affected during heavy rains. This comprehensive approach aims to improve infrastructure resilience and provide long-term benefits to Karachi’s citizens.
