Justice Irfan Saadat Khan Nominated for Supreme Court of Pakistan

Islamabad, The Judicial Commission of Pakistan convened a meeting on the 20th October 2023 to deliberate upon the nomination of Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Sindh, to serve as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. As conveyed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Irfan Saadat Khan’s vast experience, expertise, and esteemed character make him an apt candidate for the position, especially given his standing as the most senior among the Chief Justices and Judges of all High Courts. The nomination received unanimous approval from the attending members and was further endorsed in writing by the Law Minister, currently abroad. This nomination will now be forwarded to the Parliamentary Committee as per Article 175A(8) and (12) of the Constitution.

According to a news release by Supreme Court of Pakistan. The meeting also addressed another crucial agenda item: determining the criteria for the appointment of High Court Judges. The Chief Justice had previously reached out to commission members, gathering their perspectives on the matter. These suggestions, compiled and distributed to the members, will be examined further. The deadline for submission of these suggestions has been extended until the 27th of October, 2023, and will be discussed in the upcoming Commission meeting.
