Islamabad: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, has outlined a new maritime strategy emphasizing climate-resilient infrastructure, aiming to modernize Pakistan’s ports, reduce environmental impact, and promote economic growth.
In a series of meetings, Chaudhry reviewed progress across maritime institutions, such as the Port Qasim Authority and Karachi Port Trust, with a focus on sustainability and modernization. The Minister examined Port Qasim Authority’s long-term plan to enhance cargo capacity and infrastructure, positioning it as a regional logistics hub.
The Karachi Port Trust’s strategy includes governance reforms, digitalization projects, and operational enhancements. The Trust reported advancements like the clearance of 44,000 containers, improved export facilitation, and effective oil spill responses.
The Marine Fisheries Department (MFD) highlighted its initiatives, including a fisheries dialogue center, revamped training sessions, and substantial revenue and export achievements. The MFD aims to train stakeholders in fisheries management to boost efficiency.
