Judicial Commission of Pakistan Convenes to Revise Key Judicial Rules

Karachi, In a landmark meeting today, the Committee established by the Chief Justice of Pakistan convened to discuss revisions to the Judicial Commission of Pakistan Rules 2010. Co-chaired by Mr. Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice (Retired) Manzoor Ahmed Malik, the committee included prominent members from the judiciary and bar councils.

According to Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Committee’s agenda encompassed critical aspects of judicial appointments and operations. Discussions focused on the nomination process for judges at various levels, including the Supreme Court, High Courts, and the Federal Shariat Court. Key topics also included criteria for determining merit in judicial appointments and strategies to ensure diversity and inclusivity in these processes.

The Committee’s efforts are directed toward aligning the Judicial Commission’s operations with the constitutional mandate of inclusive decision-making, as stipulated in Article 175A. Deliberations also covered the establishment of a secretariat for the Commission, aimed at enhancing efficiency and transparency.

This meeting is a pivotal step in the ongoing efforts to modernize and reform Pakistan’s judicial system. The Committee is expected to finalize its revised draft of the Rules by 29th December 2023, marking a significant move towards a more robust and equitable judicial framework.
