Judicial Commission of Pakistan Adjourns Amid Proposed Constitutional Amendments

Islamabad, The Judicial Commission of Pakistan’s latest meeting on May 3, 2024, chaired by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, ended in an adjournment following a proposal to defer discussions due to impending governmental amendments to the Constitution. The commission, which convened to consider various judicial appointments, agreed not to let the postponement affect the ongoing appointment processes.

According to Supreme Court of Pakistan, the meeting was initially set to consider procedural drafts by the Rules Making Committee. However, the Federal Law Minister’s request for the commission to defer the discussion in light of expected constitutional amendments led Justice Yahya Afridi to propose postponing the meeting. The members unanimously decided that while the meeting would be adjourned, the appointment process would continue under the existing rules, ensuring no delay in judicial appointments amidst the constitutional review.
