Delhi, September 11, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Joint Declaration adopted at G20 Summit held in New Delhi underscored that all states must act in a manner consistent with the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter in its entirety.
The Declaration’s preamble titled “We are One Earth, One Family, and we share One Future” stated, “We note with deep concern the immense human suffering and the adverse impact of wars and conflicts around the world.”
While making a mention of Ukraine war, the declaration further goes as: “We reiterated us
national positions and resolutions adopted at the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly (A/RES/ES-11/1 and A/RES/ES-11/6) and underscored that all states must act in a manner consistent with the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter in its entirety.”
“In line with the UN Charter, all states must refrain from the threat or use of force to seek territorial acquisition against the territorial integrity and sovereignty or political independence of any state. The use or threat of use of nuclear weapons is inadmissible.”
Experts believe that in the above paragraph, there is also an indirect reference to the human rights violations in the UN-acknowledged disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The G20 countries, the experts add, have a calculated opinion that in the presence of issues like Ukraine and Kashmir, the Declaration’s them “We are One Earth, One Family, and we share One Future” cannot be realized.
