JNU Campus Walls Graffitied with ‘Rebuild Babri Masjid’ Slogan Prior to Ram Mandir Inauguration

New Delhi, In the lead-up to the Ram Mandir inauguration ceremony set for January 22 in Ayodhya, India, walls at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi were found graffitied with slogans demanding the reconstruction of the Babri Masjid.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the graffiti, which included the message “Rebuild Babri Masjid 6 December” along with the inscription “NSUI” (National Students’ Union of India), was discovered on the first floor of the School of Language. The images of these slogans quickly circulated on social media.

This incident at JNU is not unprecedented. In October of the same year, the university witnessed similar occurrences, with slogans such as “Free Kashmir,” “Teri Kabar Khudegi” (Your grave will be dug), and “Bhagwa Jalega” appearing on campus walls.

These instances reflect ongoing political and social tensions surrounding significant historical and religious sites in India, as well as the continuing discourse on these issues within academic settings.
