JKLF Marks 5 Years of Yasin Malik’s Detention, Calls for Kashmiri Freedom

Islamabad, The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) commemorated the fifth anniversary of the illegal detention of its chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik, in Indian jails, lauding his unwavering dedication to the Kashmiri freedom movement. The organization highlighted Malik’s role as a beacon of inspiration for Kashmiris engaged in the struggle for self-determination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, JKLF’s chief spokesperson, Mohammad Rafiq Dar, announced in Islamabad that Indian authorities arrested Yasin Malik from his residence in 2019, subsequently detaining him under the stringent Public Safety Act in Jammu Jail. Dar noted that Malik was later transferred to Delhi’s Tihar Jail in May of the same year, following the levying of false charges by the Indian government’s National Investigation Agency (NIA). Dar criticized the special court in Delhi’s decision to sentence Malik to life imprisonment on these baseless accusations and expressed concern over the current government’s efforts to seek the death penalty for Malik, describing it as part of a broader campaign of bias and vengeance against Kashmiri political prisoners.

Dar emphasized that Malik’s resolve and commitment to the cause of freedom have remained steadfast, despite facing fabricated legal challenges, solitary confinement, and deteriorating health due to inadequate prison conditions. He portrayed Malik as a symbol of the Kashmiri struggle, asserting that India’s attempts to intimidate voices of freedom like Malik’s through oppressive measures would not succeed.

The spokesperson paid homage to all Kashmiri prisoners, including Malik, for their sacrifices and determination, affirming their status as sources of inspiration for the Kashmiri people. He reaffirmed JKLF’s commitment to continuing the legacy of martyrs and jailed Hurriyat leaders until achieving liberation from Indian rule.
