Japan Funds Electricity Projects in Mandi Bahauddin

Mandi Bahauddin: Two electricity projects funded by Japan have been inaugurated in Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab, aiming to enhance the quality of life in the area. The projects, overseen by the Hana Development Council, were made possible through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects Program, which provided financial support amounting to $92,307.

According to a statement by Embassy of Japan in Pakistan, the initial grant of $42,818 was allocated in 2019 to establish electricity facilities for eight communities. An additional $49,489 was granted in 2022, enabling electricity connections for seven more communities. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Japanese Embassy officials, NGO board members, and local community leaders.

Hana Development Council, which has previously received Japanese grants, has been collaborating with the Japanese Embassy for over two decades to empower vulnerable regions. The funding aims to improve living conditions and stimulate economic opportunities by providing access to modern energy services.

At the ceremony, Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Akamatsu Shuichi, congratulated Ms. Hameeda Waheeduddin, President of the NGO, and highlighted the significant impact of these projects. He noted that access to sustainable electricity in fifteen communities has made a tangible difference. Mr. Akamatsu also affirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in improving living standards and strengthening bilateral relations.
