Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Mobilizes Against Modi Government’s Waqf (Amendment) Bill

New Delhi: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has initiated a vigorous campaign against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, citing concerns over its constitutionality and potential impact on the religious rights of the Muslim community in India.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Maulana Arshad Madani, President of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, has been at the forefront of efforts to mobilize opposition against the Bill, engaging with Indian opposition leaders and members of the Parliament’s joint committee since its introduction on August 8. The organization argues that the amendments threaten the integrity and safety of Waqf properties, which are pivotal to the community’s religious and cultural heritage.

Maulana Madani has vehemently opposed the Bill, labeling it a direct attack on the religious freedoms of Muslims under the guise of property protection. The campaign against the Bill has expanded beyond discussions in New Delhi; the Jamiat’s delegation has also been active in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, meeting with influential political figures to rally support against both the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and related issues such as the proposed Uniform Civil Code.

The joint committee is scheduled to meet this Thursday with officials from the ministries of minority affairs, and law and justice to further deliberate on the amendments proposed in the Bill.
