Srinagar, For the third consecutive Friday, authorities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) sealed the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar. Additionally, senior APHC leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, remains under house arrest and was prevented from leading the Friday prayers at the mosque.
According to a news release by Kashmir Media Service, the Anjuman Auqaf of Jamia Masjid issued a statement detailing that police officials had shut the gates to the mosque and informed the Auqaf that Friday prayers would not be permitted. The ongoing situation has caused considerable disruption, as this marks the third Friday in a row that prayers have been barred. Concurrently, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who was scheduled to address a public gathering at Jamia Masjid, continues to be restricted to his home.
It was further noted that on previous occasions, Mirwaiz had also been prohibited from attending significant religious events in the region, including the Urs of Hazrat Peeran-e-Peer Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) in Khanyar and the Seerat conference at the shrine of Peer Dastgir Sahib in Sarai Bala, Srinagar.
