Jamaat-e-Islami India Launches National Campaign to Combat Sexual Violence

New Delhi: In response to the rising incidents of sexual violence in India, Jamaat-e-Islami India, the largest Muslim organization in the country, unveiled a new campaign called ‘Morality is Freedom’. This initiative, set to span the month of September, seeks to educate the public on the connection between morality and true freedom, and to combat sexual assault against women, particularly from marginalized communities.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the campaign will include a series of awareness programs, special events on educational campuses, and the involvement of scholars from various religious backgrounds to foster a dialogue about common moral values. Ms. Rahamat Nnissa, National Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami India, cited disturbing trends in sexual violence and homicides targeting women and girls, as reported by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and the National Family Health Survey (NFHS). She pointed out that declining moral standards, the objectification of women, and the increasing consumption of alcohol and drugs are contributing factors to these crimes.

Ms. Nnissa emphasized the urgency of reassessing the prevailing attitudes and behaviors towards women and girls in India. She expressed hope that through educational efforts and public engagement, the campaign can instill a deeper understanding of how moral values are integral to achieving true freedom and safety for women across the nation.
