Islamabad: Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan has expressed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting local manufacturing over imports to boost industrial growth. He articulated this resolve during a meeting with the outgoing Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan, WADA Mitsuhiro, held in Islamabad today. The Minister underscored Japan’s pivotal role in the country’s automotive sector, particularly in the realm of electric vehicle technology, and acknowledged the promising future prospects for electric vehicles in Pakistan.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Jam Kamal Khan appreciated the longstanding relationship between Japan and Pakistan, especially in the exchange of technology and industrial knowledge, which has consistently benefitted both nations. The Japanese Ambassador reciprocated by expressing his anticipation for continued cooperation between the two countries.
Furthermore, Minister Jam Kamal Khan engaged with a team from the World Bank in Islamabad to discuss Pakistan’s export reform agenda, focusing on strategies to enhance export competitiveness. He highlighted the Whole-of-Government approach to export enhancement, advocating for a unified policy framework designed to improve the competitiveness and Ease of Doing Business for exporters.
The World Bank reiterated its commitment to collaborating on knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s global trade connections. In a mutual agreement, both parties decided to establish a joint working group on trade to advance the objective of realizing Pakistan’s export potential of sixty billion dollars.
