Jailed Kashmiri Leader Calls for Resolution of Kashmir and Palestine Conflicts

Srinagar: From his cell in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, has voiced a strong condemnation of Israeli actions in Gaza and expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Shah highlighted the passive global response to the ongoing struggles in Kashmir and Palestine in a recent message. He drew parallels between the two regions, pointing out their shared experiences of suffering under military aggression and the denial of basic rights by Indian and Israeli forces. He emphasized that resolving these long-standing disputes is crucial for global peace and prosperity.

Shah also criticized the Indian BJP government’s policies post-August 2019, accusing it of attempting to suppress the Kashmiri identity through demographic changes and the establishment of new colonies in areas like Srinagar, Pulwama, Islamabad, and Kulgam. These actions, he stated, pose a severe threat to the rights of the people in Jammu and Kashmir.

Urging the international community to intervene, Shah called for a decisive global effort to address and resolve the issues in Kashmir and Palestine. He underscored the urgent need to end the silence on Kashmir, where he claims the Indian government is imposing an apartheid-like regime that mirrors Israeli tactics in Palestine.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza has seen severe casualties and destruction, with reports suggesting over 37,000 Gazans have died in the current phase of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that began back in 1948.
