Jaffarabad Braces for Monsoon Season with Enhanced Flood Mitigation Efforts

Jaffarabad: The Director General of Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Jahanzeb Khan, conducted a thorough review of the district’s readiness for the upcoming monsoon season, focusing on new measures implemented to mitigate potential flood impacts.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, during his visit, DGP Jahanzeb Khan, along with the Chairman DDMA and Deputy Commissioner of Jaffarabad, inspected various key locations including a newly constructed drainage channel designed to alleviate urban flooding. This initiative addresses longstanding issues faced by residents due to inadequate sewage and drainage facilities, ensuring that rainwater is efficiently diverted from populated areas to the Sim branch, a crucial water channel with a capacity of 680 cusecs. Recent enhancements to the Sim branch include fortified embankments, previously prone to breaches, now strengthened to a width of up to 7 feet and a height between 9 and 10 feet.

The district’s preparation strategy also encompasses health safeguards, with medical teams and supplies ready to manage potential flood-related illnesses such as diarrhea and gastroenteritis. All Basic Health Units (BHUs) have been stocked with necessary medications, and emergency services, including Merck 1122, are on high alert.

DGP Jahanzeb Khan expressed satisfaction with the proactive steps taken by the local administration, emphasizing the importance of coordination among district heads to swiftly address any emerging issues during the monsoon period.
