Islamabad, The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Coordination Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMSTECH) have formalized a partnership to enhance conservation efforts and sustainable development practices. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the two organizations at the COMSTECH head office in Islamabad, marking a significant commitment towards advancing the green agenda within the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the collaboration will leverage the strengths of both organizations alongside academic institutions to promote environmental sustainability and climate-resilient initiatives across universities in OIC member states. The partnership aims to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and up-scale innovative projects tailored to address the pressing challenges of climate change.
During the signing ceremony, COMSTECH’s Coordinator General, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, underscored the importance of integrating science and technology to bolster cooperation among OIC member states in the realm of environmental conservation. Meanwhile, IUCN Pakistan’s Country Representative, Mahmood Akhtar Cheema, highlighted that future activities under this partnership would align with IUCN’s Nature 2030 program, focusing on global conservation and sustainability goals.
This MoU signifies a proactive step towards fostering environmental stewardship and sustainable development within the Islamic world, contributing to global efforts in combating climate change and preserving natural resources.
