Italy and Pakistan Strengthen Ties Amid Tensions in South Asia


Islamabad: The Interior Minister of Italy, Matteo Piantedosi, met President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad today to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation amid heightened tensions in South Asia. The meeting took place at Aiwan-e-Sadr, with senior Pakistani officials in attendance.



During the discussions, President Zardari highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to fostering strong ties with Italy and expressed a desire for increased collaboration in a range of sectors. The President also addressed recent military aggression from India, which he described as a threat to regional peace and stability.



Minister Piantedosi offered condolences to those affected by the recent violence and assured the President that he would communicate Pakistan’s concerns to both the Italian government and the international community. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between Italy and Pakistan in combating human trafficking and terrorism.



The Italian Minister noted the potential for economic collaboration, citing the positive contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in Italy. He underscored the integration of the Pakistani community into Italian society and their role in fostering development.



Following the meeting, President Zardari witnessed the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding. These agreements aim to curb illegal migration and facilitate the movement of skilled Pakistani workers to Italy.



This visit by the Italian Interior Minister comes at a critical time, reinforcing the ongoing partnership between the two nations.
