Islamabad: The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) through its Centre for Afghanistan, Middle East and Africa (CAMEA), launched a new book titled ‘The Return of the Taliban: International and Regional Perspectives.’ The event featured insights from various diplomats and scholars, discussing the implications of Taliban governance on Afghanistan and its relationships with neighboring countries.
According to Press Information Department, the book edited by Amina Khan, Director of CAMEA, was unveiled at an event attended by notable figures including Pakistan’s Special Representative on Afghanistan, Ambassador Asif Durrani, and former Afghan Minister of Education, Ms. Rangina Hamidi. The book offers a comprehensive examination of the Taliban’s rule since their 2021 return to power, analyzing governance, security, and diplomatic outreach amidst regional and international concerns.
The discussions highlighted the complex interdependencies between Afghanistan and Pakistan, with emphasis on terrorism and cross-border issues, the role of international diplomacy, and the need for the Taliban to adhere to governance commitments made in Doha. The speakers, including Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, ISSI’s Director General, and Ambassador Khalid Mahmood, Chairman of ISSI’s Board of Governors, addressed the broader implications of Taliban governance for regional stability and international relations.
