Karachi, An Israeli cargo ship was hit by a drone off the coast of Gujarat, India, causing a fire onboard, As pre Kashmir Media Service. The incident occurred on Saturday, involving a Liberia-flagged chemical products tanker, linked to Israel, and was en route from an Arab country to India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, The attack took place approximately 200 nautical miles southwest of Veraval city. The British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed the incident and its location. The vessel, identified in Indian media as the MV Chem Pluto, primarily used for carrying crude oil, suffered structural damage and had to take on water to control the situation.
Maritime security firm Ambrey reported the incident, noting it as the first of its kind to occur so far from the Red Sea. The Red Sea region has been a hotspot for similar attacks, prompting many global shipping companies to halt operations in the area due to heightened risks.
As of now, the perpetrators behind the drone strike near India remain unidentified. This incident adds to the growing concerns over maritime security in regions beyond the traditionally volatile Red Sea area.
