Islamabad: The United Nations marked its 79th anniversary on October 24, 2024, celebrating nearly eight decades of global cooperation since its founding in 1945. Pakistan, a member of the UN since 1947, shares a long-standing history with the organization. To commemorate this milestone, the UN in Pakistan will host a family-oriented event at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) in Islamabad on Saturday, October 26.

According to United Nations Pakistan, the event will highlight the UN’s ongoing collaboration with Pakistan, featuring live performances by local artists such as Shae Gill and the Leif Larson Music Center in Hunza. The event will also include a Career Booth offering insights into working for the UN, as well as a “UN Market Place” where visitors can interact with teams from 23 UN agencies operating in Pakistan. An exhibition detailing the shared history between Pakistan and the UN will be on display, alongside fun activities for children, food stalls, and giveaways. The event will be free and open to the public starting at 3:00 pm.

The UN’s role in Pakistan spans various sectors, including healthcare, gender equality, climate action, economic growth, and governance. This year’s celebration also comes in the wake of the “Pact for the Future,” adopted by world leaders in September, which outlines a comprehensive plan for addressing global challenges such as sustainable development and digital governance.
