ISLAMABAD: The Senate of Pakistan has officially launched the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) in a curtain raiser ceremony held in Islamabad. The event, attended by 38 ambassadors and representatives of international organizations, highlighted the broad diplomatic support for the conference scheduled for November 11-12, 2025.

Misbah Khar, advisor to the Chairman Senate and Ambassador ISC, emphasized the conference’s alignment with Pakistan’s foreign policy, focusing on conflict resolution and global peace amid crises such as poverty and climate change.

Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, in his keynote address, welcomed the presence of notable figures including Deputy Prime Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. He reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to peace and cooperation, sharing his vision for a platform dedicated to parliamentary collaboration.

Reflecting on his tenure as Prime Minister in 2008, Gilani noted the absence of parliaments in global summits for peace and development, inspiring the creation of the ISC. He underscored the critical role parliaments play in legislative diplomacy and global cooperation.

Gilani highlighted climate change as a pressing challenge, citing his visit to flood-affected areas in Multan. He stressed the need for global solidarity and collaboration among parliaments to address such issues.

The Chairman Senate pointed to the Senate’s efforts in legislative diplomacy, including celebrating Pakistan-Africa Friendship Day and engaging with international partners. He mentioned the inaugural ISC meeting in Seoul, emphasizing that the upcoming conference in Islamabad will address key issues like conflict prevention and sustainable development.

Quoting John Donne, Gilani described the ISC as a “Continent of Parliaments,” where Speakers contribute to collective progress. He expressed gratitude to diplomats and parliamentary leaders, affirming the ISC as a platform for legislative pathways to a peaceful world.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar lauded the Senate’s leadership, terming the ISC a vital initiative for peace and security. Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized the bipartisan nature of parliamentary diplomacy and collaboration against misinformation.

Secretary General Ek Nath Dhakal commended Pakistan for hosting the ISC, highlighting its role in promoting peace and legislative cooperation.

The curtain raiser sets the stage for a significant gathering of Parliamentary Leaders in Islamabad, reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to legislative diplomacy and a harmonious global future.
