Islamabad Session Highlights Longstanding Kashmiri Struggle for Freedom

Islamabad: A special awareness session focused on the Kashmir conflict and ongoing human rights challenges faced by Kashmiris under Indian rule was held in Islamabad, drawing together experts and young activists to discuss the region’s plight and the path forward.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Dr. Khurram Abbas, head of the India Study Center, detailed Pakistan’s efforts to represent Kashmiri interests on global platforms, emphasizing the protracted nature of Kashmir’s struggle for independence, which has garnered acknowledgment in various international reports. Zaman Bajwa, Executive Director of the Youth Forum for Kashmir, paid tribute to Kashmiri martyrs, asserting their sacrifices would lead to freedom soon, given the sustained high morale and courageous efforts of the Kashmiri people.

Additionally, ISS Research Fellow Miss Mehwish Hafeez addressed the repercussions of India’s revocation of Kashmir’s special status on August 5, 2019, underscoring its significant impact on the conflict. Ambassador Khalid Mehmood also spoke, refuting India’s claim that Kashmir is an internal matter, a stance contradicted by multiple United Nations resolutions that recognize the dispute and call for international mediation.
