Islamabad Seminar Draws Attention to Hurriyat Leaders’ Conditions in Indian Custody

Islamabad, The conditions of Hurriyat leaders and activists detained in Indian jails were the focus of a seminar held today at the National Press Club in Islamabad. The event, organized by Kashmir Media Service and the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Forum France, aimed to shed light on the hardships faced by these individuals, including denial of basic rights and prolonged illegal detention.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the speakers, including retired justices, lawyers, and human rights advocates, discussed the plight of several high-profile detainees such as Masarat Alam Butt, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, and others. They noted that despite India’s commitment to international conventions, these Hurriyat leaders are being denied adequate food, medical treatment, and a fair trial. The seminar also condemned the inhuman treatment reported by international human rights organizations and highlighted the deaths of senior leaders like Syed Ali Gilani and Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in custody.

The seminar’s speakers called on international bodies, including the United Nations Human Rights Council, to take immediate action against the human rights violations in Indian jails. They emphasized that the detainees are political prisoners and should be treated in accordance with international law and standards of human rights. The speakers included a roster of influential voices in legal and human rights circles, who collectively urged for international intervention to ensure the rights and dignity of the Kashmiri detainees are upheld.
