Islamabad Seminar Calls for UN Action on Kashmir, Cites Indian Violations

Islamabad: A seminar held in Islamabad on UN Day brought to light the perceived negligence of the United Nations in enforcing its resolutions on the Kashmir conflict, underscoring the Indian government’s continuous disregard for these directives.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the event, titled “United Nations and the Jammu and Kashmir Dispute,” was organized by the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) and included a diverse group of participants such as academics, practitioners, think-tank experts, students, and media representatives. The seminar served as a platform to critique the UN’s effectiveness and advocate for the rights of Kashmiris under international law.

Speakers at the seminar, including Ambassador Sohail Mahmood and former President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Ambassador Masood Khan, highlighted the historical and ongoing challenges in the region. Discussions emphasized the need for a plebiscite and criticized the international community for not upholding Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. The dialogue also addressed the broader implications of geopolitical interests and the role of the UN in modern conflicts.

The seminar concluded with a strong call to the UN to reassert its commitment to its charter and take actionable steps to address the grievances of the Kashmiri people, urging an immediate and sustained international focus on the region to ensure peace and stability.
