Islamabad Seeks to Eliminate Single-Use Plastic Bags


Islamabad, In a move toward environmental sustainability, Romina Khurshid Alam, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, announced the Prime Minister’s initiative to rid Islamabad Capital Territory of single-use plastic bags. This announcement was made during a meeting with Ivonne Julitta Bollon, Senior Vice President of Metro AG (Global), who confirmed Metro’s compliance with the new prohibition regulations.



According to Press Information Department, Ms. Alam detailed the efforts being made to implement the Single Use Plastic (Prohibition) Regulations 2023 across the territory. She expressed concerns about plastic pollution and its threat to future generations. Ms. Alam noted that following the Prime Minister’s directives, enforcement letters had been dispatched to all provinces to ensure strict adherence to the ban.



During the meeting, Ms. Bollon highlighted Metro’s decision to stop using single-use plastic and polythene bags in their sales and purchase operations, aligning with the new regulations. The discussion also touched on the potential for hosting an expo to showcase products made from recycling techniques, further promoting environmental sustainability.
