ISLAMABAD, Mushaal Hussein Mullick, the Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Human Rights and Women Empowerment, has asserted that the Indian state has relentlessly persecuted the Kashmiri population for over seven decades to suppress their quest for freedom.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mullick’s remarks were part of her message on “Jammu Martyrs’ Day,” observed across Kashmir and worldwide on November 6. This day commemorates the victims of the 1947 Jammu massacre, which she described as the most egregious instance of genocide and ethnic cleansing of Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir. Despite the passage of over seven decades, Mullick noted that no action has been taken against India for these war crimes, emboldening India to intensify its oppressive regime in the region.
The SAPM recalled the Jammu massacre as a profoundly traumatic event in Kashmir’s history, continuing to affect the region. She criticized the Indian government’s strategy of altering the region’s demographic composition by reducing the Muslim majority, who constituted over 60 percent of the population.
Mullick also referred to the abrogation of IIOJK’s special status in August 2019 by the Modi-led government as a continuation of this design to marginalize the Muslim population. She condemned the wrongful incarceration of senior Hurriyat leaders, including her husband Yasin Malik, in what she termed as politically motivated cases aimed at weakening the freedom movement.
Concluding her message, Mushaal Hussein Mullick called for urgent intervention by the United Nations and global powers. She urged them to take effective measures against the ongoing human rights violations and killings in Kashmir and to uphold their commitments towards ensuring the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.
