Islamabad Restaurants Sealed for Issuing Fake Receipts in FBR Tax Compliance Drive

Islamabad: The Regional Tax Office (RTO) of Islamabad has taken stringent action against two well-known restaurants for their involvement in issuing fake receipts. This move is part of the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) ongoing efforts to ensure tax compliance among Tier-1 retailers and restaurants through the implementation of the Point of Sales (POS) invoicing system.

According to Press Information Department, the enforcement led by the Deputy Commissioner of RTO Islamabad resulted in the sealing of establishments in Blue Area and Super Market. Each restaurant faces a penalty of Rs. 0.5 million due to the issuance of inauthentic receipts, identified using advanced POS tracking software. This action follows the recent launch of the FBR’s POS Prize Scheme on October 25, initially rolled out in Islamabad, aimed at curbing tax evasion by incentivizing consumers to report fraudulent activities.

The POS Prize Scheme encourages consumers to report fake receipts via the Tax Asaan app, with verified reports leading to cash rewards directly transferred to the reporters’ bank accounts. Restaurants and retailers found in violation are then sealed as part of the crackdown. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to expand POS system implementation across the country, enhancing tax collection and compliance through technological integration.
