Islamabad Police Overhauls Checkpoints with Digital Upgrades

Islamabad: In a move to enhance security and ease traffic flow, the Islamabad Police have initiated a comprehensive upgrade of checkpoints across the city. Under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, the security framework has undergone significant changes, including the removal of the traditional barrier system and the introduction of a new lane system.

The initiative has started with the digitization of six checkpoints located in the high-security zone of the federal capital. As part of the modernization efforts, police personnel are now required to use body cam kits, ensuring a more transparent and accountable checkpoint operation. Officers aged 35 or below have been specifically assigned to these posts to bring a fresh approach to security management.

In addition to these changes, 17 officers deemed unfit for duty have been instructed to report back to headquarters, paving the way for more effective policing at the checkpoints. This decision is seen as a response to the traffic congestion issues frequently observed during vehicle inspections.

A noteworthy feature of the upgrades is the installation of a special video link button at the checkpoints. This technology allows citizens to communicate directly with the Safe City Islamabad Command and Control Center, facilitating prompt responses to public grievances and enhancing overall citizen-police interaction.

Senior police officials have emphasized that these technological uplifts are aimed at not only improving security measures but also ensuring a smoother experience for commuters passing through these checkpoints.
