Islamabad Police Mobilizes 16,000 Officers for Muharram Security

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police have announced extensive security measures for the religious gatherings and processions during Muharram-ul-Haram, with over 16,000 officials set to be deployed across the capital. This decision follows directives from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, and was confirmed by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Islamabad, Muhammad Jawad Tariq.

The finalized security plan, approved by IGP Rizvi after a comprehensive review, involves coordination among all police wings, with strict vigilance measures in place. The DIG emphasized the importance of liaising with peace committees and event organizers to ensure effective security.

In total, 181 religious gatherings and 965 processions will occur in Islamabad. The security plan includes personnel from the Pakistan Rangers, Lady Police, Traffic Police, and Special Branch. The police will perform checks using metal detectors and walk-through gates at event entry points.

Special attention will be given to professional checking of participants, with additional support from Rangers. The plan also involves proper lighting, route clearing, and patrols to maintain order and safety. Traffic management will be a priority, with alternate routes and parking arrangements to minimize inconvenience.

Lady Police will be deployed for female gatherings, and all security personnel are instructed to prevent unauthorized access to worship places. Sensitive areas will have special commando and police presence.

DIG Tariq reaffirmed the police’s commitment to safeguarding the community during Muharram, ensuring both the smooth conduct of events and the security of all participants.
