Islamabad Police Launches First Cyber Crime Investigation Unit

Islamabad, The Islamabad Police have announced the establishment of their first Cyber Crime Investigation Unit, a significant step towards strengthening the fight against cybercrime in Pakistan’s capital. This initiative aligns with recent amendments to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), which authorize Islamabad Police to register and investigate cybercrime cases.

According to Islamabad Capital Police, the formation of this unit is a response to the growing challenges posed by digital offenses. To ensure the effectiveness of the unit, Islamabad Police have collaborated with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to gain technical expertise in investigating complex cybercrimes.

The unit’s establishment follows directives from Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO) Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan. A significant milestone in this initiative is the completion of specialized training for 60 Islamabad Police officers, conducted in collaboration with the FIA. These officers are now equipped with essential skills for handling cybercrime investigations.

The Cyber Crime Investigation Center, located at the F-6 Service Center, will act as the operational hub for the unit. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to facilitate the coordination and execution of comprehensive cybercrime investigations.

Under the supervision of the CPO Safe City/Traffic and SSP Safe City, the trained officers will undertake their duties with a focus on precision and coordination. This approach aims to ensure a robust and integrated strategy in tackling cyber threats.

In an effort to engage the community, the Islamabad Police are encouraging individuals to report cybercrime cases at any police station, making it easier for citizens to contribute to the fight against digital crimes.

Set to become operational from January 15, the F-6 Cyber Crime Investigation Center represents a major enhancement of Islamabad’s capacity to address and mitigate cyber threats. This collaborative initiative between the Islamabad Police and the FIA demonstrates a strong commitment to combating emerging cybercriminal activities and protecting the digital space for the city’s residents.
