Islamabad Police Intensifies Crackdown on Drug Trafficking, Arrests Surge in Early 2024

Islamabad, In a significant move to combat drug trafficking within the city, the Islamabad Capital Police have ramped up their efforts, resulting in the arrest of 246 individuals for drug peddling in the initial 45 days of 2024. This marks a notable 46% increase in arrests compared to the same period last year. The crackdown, led by Islamabad Capital City Police Officer Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, also saw substantial increases in the seizure of narcotics, including hashish, heroin, and crystal methamphetamine.

According to Islamabad Capital Police, the intensified operations against drug traffickers are part of a broader initiative directed by ICCPO Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan. The Operations Division’s Narcotics Investigation Unit, in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Force, has been at the forefront of these efforts, showcasing a significant escalation in drug seizures. Compared to 2023, the police have reported a 13% increase in hashish confiscation, an 84% rise in heroin, and a 98% surge in crystal methamphetamine captures during the same timeframe.

The Islamabad Capital Police’s campaign against narcotics is part of a comprehensive strategy to protect the lives and properties of citizens. With a proactive approach, the police are utilizing all available resources to eradicate drug-related activities from the capital. The operations not only focus on the immediate apprehension of drug peddlers but also aim to safeguard the future of the younger generation by removing such detrimental influences from the community.

The Islamabad Capital Police have made available the emergency helpline “Pucar-15” and the “ICT-15” mobile application as part of their initiative to foster community cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking.
