ISLAMABAD: In a concerted effort to address crime, the Islamabad Capital Police reported a notable 32% decline in criminal activity in 2025 compared to the previous year. This substantial decrease comes after a rigorous campaign that led to the arrest of 8,784 suspects over four months, including 649 individuals from 290 criminal gangs involved in robbery, snatching, burglary, and vehicle theft.
Stolen goods valued at over Rs. 814.35 million were recovered during the operations. Items recovered included gold jewelry, mobile phones, 152 cars, and 320 motorcycles. The police action against proclaimed offenders resulted in the arrest of 896 individuals.
Under the directives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, a crackdown on illegal arms led to 921 cases being registered. The police arrested 940 suspects and confiscated 1,024 pistols, 117 Kalashnikovs, 20 rifles or carbines, along with ammunition and 87 daggers.
Anti-narcotics operations resulted in 730 cases, with 736 individuals apprehended. Authorities recovered more than 279 kg of heroin, 131 kg of hashish, 48 kg of ice, 10 kg of opium, and 3,609 liquor bottles. In educational institutions, 18 suspects were arrested, with over 16 kg of hashish, 3 kg of heroin, and 3 kg of ice seized.
Additionally, a special campaign targeting professional beggars led to the detention of 1,388 individuals.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Islamabad, Muhammad Jawad Tariq, highlighted the necessity of stringent measures against drug dealers. He appealed to the public to actively participate in the fight against crime. Tariq also urged officers to intensify efforts against street crimes, theft, and proclaimed offenders, ensuring the implementation of effective measures for crime prevention and increased surveillance.
