Islamabad Police Arrest 17 in Major Anti-Crime Operation: Drugs and Weapons Seized

Islamabad: In a rigorous anti-crime effort over the past 24 hours, Islamabad Police have detained 17 individuals and seized a considerable quantity of drugs and weapons. The operation is part of a broader initiative directed by Inspector General of Police, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, to eradicate criminal activities from the city.

According to Islamabad Capital Police announcement issued on 11 September 2024, the arrests and seizures occurred in various districts of Islamabad. The operation included multiple police teams acting under the strategic guidance of the IGP to clamp down on criminal elements. Notably, the Ramna police team apprehended an individual named Rehan Shahid, from whom an MP-5 gun was confiscated. Similarly, the Shams Colony police detained Sher Yar Ahmed, finding him in possession of 120 grams of hashish.

Further success was reported by the Sabzi Mandi police, who arrested three suspects—Jameel Ahmed, Waqas Khan, and Abdul Rehman—involved in drug peddling, bike theft, and illegal weapon possession. From them, authorities recovered five kilograms of heroin, two stolen motorcycles, and a 30 bore pistol. Legal proceedings against all detained suspects are ongoing with cases registered and investigations in progress.

Moreover, the crackdown extended to proclaimed offenders and absconders, with 12 additional arrests across the city. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Syed Ali Raza, has instructed officers to escalate efforts against criminal activities, emphasizing that citizen safety is a critical priority and no negligence will be tolerated.

The police have also encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or information through the emergency helpline “Pucar-15” or the “ICT-15” app to ensure prompt police response and assistance.
