Islamabad Intensifies Efforts to Combat Dengue, Reviews Strategies in Key Meeting

Islamabad: In a concerted effort to combat the rising threat of dengue in the twin cities, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, chaired a critical meeting on Tuesday. The session focused on reviewing and enhancing the existing strategies for dengue prevention, with significant participation from district administration officers of both Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

According to Capital Development Authority, the meeting addressed the current status of dengue cases in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, noting a decrease in reported instances compared to the previous year. Discussions emphasized the importance of identifying and monitoring potential dengue breeding sites. Randhawa instructed that measures such as fumigation and spraying should be rigorously applied in areas identified as high-risk.

The meeting also highlighted a recent spike in dengue cases in Jalas, prompting considerations to augment the entomologist team in Islamabad with additional experts from Rawalpindi. Randhawa underscored the necessity of enhanced monitoring by entomologists to control the situation effectively.

Further, Randhawa called for a unified approach between the administrations of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, particularly in the border areas of the twin cities, to strengthen dengue prevention efforts. He advocated for the utilization of all available resources and the launch of a comprehensive awareness campaign to educate the public on dengue prevention techniques and necessary precautionary measures. The need for effective communication and coordination between the two city administrations was also stressed to ensure a robust response to the dengue threat.
