Islamabad Hosts Seminar on Intellectual Property and Sustainable Development Goals


Islamabad, The Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO-Pakistan), in partnership with The Millennium Universal College (TMUC), hosted a seminar titled “IP and SDGs: Building Our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity” to commemorate World Intellectual Property Day 2024. The event focused on the integration of intellectual property (IP) education into national development and its role in achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).



According to Press Information Department, Ambassador (R) Farukh Amil, Chair of IPO Pakistan, delivered the keynote address, advocating for the inclusion of IP education in the national curriculum to foster a culture of innovation and ownership among students. He emphasized IP’s essential role in enhancing national development, economic security, and individual empowerment.



Ms. Shazia Adnan, Director General of IPO-Pakistan, outlined the organization’s initiatives, including a national IP strategy and an awareness campaign, aimed at protecting innovations and nurturing creativity across the country. Dr. Faisalabad Mushtaq, Founder and CEO of TMUC, highlighted the importance of collaboration between academia, industry, and government to advance IP awareness and protection. The seminar also featured a panel discussion with IP law expert Mr. Majid Bashir and banking and financial expert Ms. Maleeha Mimi Bangash, offering insights into the challenges and opportunities within the IP landscape and its impact on sustainable development.
