Islamabad: The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT) convened a significant event on Thursday to launch pivotal reports on education technology and foundational learning, and to discuss ongoing reforms in assessment and teacher education. This initiative is part of a broader response to the education emergency declared by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, aiming to address the dual crisis of out-of-school children and inadequate learning outcomes.
According to Press Information Department, the event titled ‘Tackling the Education Emergency ~ EdTech, Assessment, Teaching and Foundational Learning’ was concluded by Mr. Azim ud-Din Zahid, Member of the National Assembly and chair of the Standing Committee on Education. Zahid emphasized the importance of innovation and reform in education, particularly advocating for policies that focus on marginalized children. Federal Secretary of Education, Mr. Mohyuddin Wani, highlighted that rapid reforms are being implemented across various educational sectors to combat the crisis.
The session included the launch of two major reports. The first, developed in collaboration with EdTech Hub, detailed the implementation of education technology in Gilgit-Baltistan and was presented by Nawaz Aslam, Innovation Specialist at EdTech Hub. The second report, Pakistan’s first-ever Foundational Learning Landscape Analysis, was introduced by the MoFEPT’s Pakistan Foundational Learning Hub, offering insights into improving foundational skills in reading and mathematics.
Additionally, the event showcased significant reforms in teacher education and assessment, with presentations by Mahnoor Tanweer Butt, Manager of the National Institute of Excellence in Teacher Education, and Syed Junaid Akhlaq, Chairman of the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.
