Islamabad, A group of civil society members in occupied Jammu and Kashmir has called on India to halt its occupation and acknowledge the Kashmiri right to self-determination, aligning with international resolutions.
According to Kashmir Media Service, during a meeting in Srinagar, civil society figures like Dr. Zubair Ahmed, Muhammad Furhan, Muhammad Iqbal Shaheen, and Syed Haider Hussain highlighted the necessity of reinstating Articles 370 and 35-A to their original statuses. They advocated for an end to human rights violations in the region and stressed the urgency of resolving the Kashmir conflict as per United Nations directives.
The speakers refuted the notion of Jammu and Kashmir being an integral part of India, a claim they argue is propagated to misguide the global community. They criticized what they described as India’s misleading peace narratives, which they believe mask underlying aggressive policies and exacerbate regional tensions.
The group condemned the ongoing militarized enforcement in Kashmir, urging India to halt its disinformation campaigns and comply with international norms regarding the territory’s disputed status.
The call for action also included demands for halting human rights abuses and allowing scrutiny by independent entities, thereby ensuring India’s adherence to international human rights standards.
The civil society members argued for establishing a compelling legal framework supporting Kashmiris’ stance, denouncing India’s actions in the region as crimes against humanity and illegal occupation under international law.
They asserted the legitimacy of armed resistance in Kashmir as a response to occupation, framing it as a lawful struggle for liberation and a fundamental political right, thus urging international acknowledgment and intervention.
