ISLAMABAD, In a surge of law enforcement activity, the Islamabad Capital Police detained 22 individuals, among them five professional beggars, over the span of 24 hours, confiscating an array of illicit items including narcotics, alcohol, and weapons, as reported by a public relations officer.
According to Islamabad Capital Police, the recent heightened measures against criminal activity stem from specific directives by Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO) Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, aiming for a significant reduction in crime throughout the city.
Acting on these orders, various police teams undertook successful operations across the capital. Aabpara police detained Abdul Ul Rehaman, seizing 1070 grams of hashish. Dani Ahil, apprehended by Secretariat police, was found with six wine bottles, while Kohsar police arrested Mehmood Masih, discovering a 12-bore gun. Karachi Company police team arrested Farooq and Sulman and secured a 30-bore pistol and a dagger. Other teams, ranging from Sumbal to Bhara Kahu, managed to seize more weapons, wine bottles, and significant quantities of narcotics including hashish and heroin.
As part of a concerted effort to curtail begging, five professional beggars were taken into custody, with charges filed under the beggar act. Reiterating the importance of safety and security of the city’s inhabitants, ICCPO Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan instructed the police to further amplify efforts against nefarious elements, emphasizing that no compromises would be entertained in ensuring public safety.
